Province Quarantine Hospital is built on Rainsford Island.

Built “to be used and improved for a publick hospital for the reception and accommodation of such sick and infectious persons as shall be sent there by order,” it is replaced by a new quarantine hospital on Deer Island in 1849. The building and Rainsford Island are sold to the state in 1852.*
